The structure of semaglutide has been modified based on native GLP-1 to resist enzymatic degradation and to enable strong binding to serum albumin in the bloodstream. Activation of the GLP-1 receptor stimulates insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release, thereby effectively regulating blood glucose levels.
